Have I been Pwned?

Many of you will notice that there is a huge influx of emails going around indicating that you’re being watched, emails that appear to be sent by you or someone indicating they have access to your online life. While many of these emails are simple scare tactics, one always has to wonder how much truth is behind what is being said.  What could they have access to? Have any of my accounts been compromised?

There is a website called “Have I Been Pwned?”  https://haveibeenpwned.com/

**** ”pwned” is a geek slang for ‘owned’ or ‘to be dominated’ and is even pronounced as “owned”

Enter any of your email addresses into the site, and it will compare your email against a listing of websites that have been compromised in a data breach. If your email is found as potential in any of the recorded compromises it will indicate it to you in a list. If this is the case, simply go to the website in question and change your password.

Please note that if you’ve changed your password to a site that is listed anytime after the date of the recorded data breach you will be safe. But your email is still listed as being from the original incident. So it will always show in the list.

Keep being vigilant with your emails.  Double-check the sender and their return email address of the email, and be cautious when opening attachments.
